Kylian Mbappé scored a hat trick as Paris Saint-Germain put one foot in the Champions League quarterfinals with a 4-1 win over Barcelona on Tuesday. The 22-year-old France international opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a superb solo effort, dribbling past several Barcelona defenders before firing into the bottom corner.
He added his second just five minutes later, pouncing on a loose ball in the Barcelona area and slotting it home. Mbappé completed his hat trick in the 65th minute with a stunning free kick from 25 yards out.
Barcelona pulled one back through Lionel Messi in the 71st minute, but it was not enough to prevent PSG from taking a commanding lead into the second leg at the Parc des Princes on March 10.
Mbappé's performance was all the more impressive considering it was his first-ever start in the Champions League. The Frenchman has now scored 21 goals in all competitions this season, including 10 in the Champions League.
PSG will be confident of finishing the job in the second leg and reaching the quarterfinals for the first time since 2016.
